Hello there!

I'm new here...and just willing to install Mint on my Toshiba laptop Satellite P70A with intel Core i7-4700MQ @ 2.40GHz processor and 16GB ram currently running Windows 10 Home without any hardware issues. I just tried Linux Mint 21 Vanessa Cinnamon on live cd mode and noticed some issues:

1.I can't control the keyboard backlight from the control panel or the physical keys which works fine on Win 10. It has 3 options on/off/on keypress but nothing worked on the live session. And also some other function keys like touchpad toggle and aeroplane mode are not working)

2.And I was unable to turn on bluetooth. When I clicked the icon on the right of the panel it opened a bluetooth manager and asked to turn on the bluetooth. When I pressed turn on both the manager window and the icon on the panel were both gone. I tried to open the manager through control panel but nothing happened. The wifi works fine btw (Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter)

3.And this device have 2 gpus (Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M) and I'd like to know how I can know which gpu is curently used and how to switch between them. And I am wondering how these two work on Win10 (both or one at a time? I can see activity graphs for both of them in task manager but have only intel graphic control panel on desktop right click menu)

4.And I'd like to know how I can monitor the GPUs and disk activities on mint which are not available in the resource monitor ( something equivalent to resmon on Windows maybe)

5.Plus, on windows I can use many gestures on the touchpad ( like 3 finger tap/swipe on all for directions, four finger tap which have different function) but on mint I can use only 2 finger tap and scrolling options and the scrolling is not as smooth as on windows. And I've noticed on windows it runs a service named Synaptic Touchpad Enhancements. Is there any ways to get back the full touchpad functionality on mint?

So those are the issues so far and I believe they are fixable and I'm looking forward to install linux mint on my laptop soon because I hate the lack of customizability, high but useless resource usage, endless updates and many more on windows 10. On the other hand I LOVE OPEN SOURCE.
and I like to know whether I have chosen the best version and DE that suits my device )

You did not supply the full data so we do not know if the information is from an LM21 install or from an LM21 live session.

The repo list appears to indicate it is from an LM21 install? If my guess is correct, please open Update Manager and run all the updates. Your system is not running the most recent kernel, Cinnamon version, Xorg version, Mesa version, and bluetooth software version and probably a lot of other code as well.

I also suggest you check to make sure your system is running the most recent BIOS/UEFI version. BIOS/UEFI versions can affect some of the items you mentioned.

In order to be able to do switching with the GPUs, you will want to install the proprietary Nvidia driver. However, one can only do that on the installed system so you need to let us know if Linux Mint is installed or the data was just from a live session.

I have not installed the OS on my device yet and the data above are from a live session. I needed to assure everything works smooth and fine before installing mint over current OS and I guess that's a main reason why you offer a live cd option ?? And it turns out there are some issues...

You did not provide the complete information which would let us know the data was from a live session. You decided to remove some of the information for some unknown reason.

Nvidia drivers are proprietary and for legal reasons are not provided on the live CD. Therefore you can not have the same options in the live session as you can on the installed version. One needs to reboot to complete the installation of Nvidia drivers and rebooting is not possible with a live session. Once you get Nvidia drivers installed, there is an applet which can tell you the GPU in use and let you switch GPUs.

The data you posted is showing no Bluetooth driver installed. Without a driver loaded, Bluetooth can not work. I am not familiar with your laptop to know what driver might be needed.

Linux Mint is not an open-source clone of Windows so expecting us to understand what you have on Windows to know if the same thing is possible on Linux Mint is something those of us who do not have your laptop model or Windows are unlikely to be able to answer. This is a user forum where users help other users.
