my dilemma is my MB has "smart fan" which I can set speed to temperature for both CPU and case fans in BIOS.I have reset the profile for the case fans so they spin a lot slower, now when I boot, the fans may run at the slower speed or just run flat out. If I boot and they run flat out I restart, go into bios, use "F10" and Save and it will start back up all nice and quiet. On next boot they run flat out again, nothing is changing in bios so is my os reading something else. I hope this makes sense. Cheers Wilky

inxi says fan speed N/A so my guess would be your sensors aren't configured properly:

Code: Select all

sudo sensors-detect
If you get a "/dev/port operation not permitted" disable secure boot in BIOS and try again, then confirm sensors are working with just a plain:

Code: Select all

sensors

what I don't understand is in bios using "smart Fan" I set my temp/fan rpm and save and exit and fans do as they are told, but on the next boot they run flat out again, If I do a reboot, go into bios but change nothing, just save and exit, it starts up with the fans a low speed.
These are system/case fans (not CPU or GPU fans) that power from the mb.

I'm not familiar with your mobo but I know some of mine with "smart" fan control use temperature hysteresis and that sometimes requires a little tweaking to get working as desired. Since it's not a CPU or GPU fan it's only using the mobo's temp sensor. My first thought was that sensor might be faulty. Maybe monitor the temp changing with inxi -s to see if anything weird is going on.
