Boot only Helena on Macbook

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this..
But, I am wondering if it's possible to have only linux booting on my macbook. From everything I've read, it says I need to have refit installed in osx for it to see the linux partition. If that's the case, I'd be fine keeping osx installed, I just haven't been using it much, mint fits me pretty well.

Thanks

You can set a very short time out in grub
You don't tell which version you have but pre Mint 8 you do it in menu.lst and in Helena and forward it's in /etc/default/grub
Change the value to something low - if you change to zero you have to use a live CD to change it back
Of course grub must default to Mint

Husse, I don't think that's what OP was asking, ReFit runs before GRUB, so anything you change there will have no effect.

This page suggests you don't need ReFit to boot other OS's on a MacBook;

http://refit.sourceforge.net/myths/

That method works, but you have to hold opt. every time then select OS so it's no help really.

likespie, did you ever get this figured out? I'm running Mint on my MacBook too and I no longer have any need for OSX (which always drove me banana's anyway) I'd love to hide any reference to it on boot, but would rather still have it there just in case.

If anyone else has figured this out, your assistance would be much appreciated.

I have a 6,1 MacBook, but I think the results will end up the same. I am getting ready to install Mint in place of OS X (which briefly replaced Ubuntu). I'll post more details, but basically I use the disk utility built into Ubuntu to overwrite whatever partitions OS X created and then just treat as a normal box. Several months ago when I first purchased the MacBook, I had ReFit running on the system but later discovered that it's not necessary to have it if you're completely replacing OS X.

Hey,

I've got a MacBook 2,1 and used Mint8 parallel to OSX. (Without ReFit so I had to push "alt" on startup to boot into Mint8. Worked quite fine.) With Mint9 I decided to only use Mint. All I did was to install LinuxMint using the DVD and selected "Use complete harddisk for installation".
Everything works quite fine. On startup my display gets white/grey and a short moment afterwards I get the bootscreen of LinuxMint and a few moments later Mint9 is running.

Greetings,
HDC

Finally back. I have a post on my blog at http://marstella.net that covers installation of Linux Mint 9 (Isadora) to the MacBook 6,1. It's pretty intense so I'm not going to attempt to post it here. However, if I have a chance I will clean it up and submit it to both Mint and Ubuntu as a HowTo.

Please note that it is definitely geared towards someone that is fully replacing all OS on their MacBook with only Linux. If you plan to dual or triple boot, you definitely don't want to use my method.
