infrared irda usb

Hello, I bought a infrared usb, I want to use a remote control for totem and rhythmbox, and so on

The specifications are:
Allow transfer wireless between desktop pc, notebook, cellphone, digital camera, scanner and printer.

Support 128-bit wep security to crypted transfers

Works with Windows 98SE, ME, NT, 2000 y XP

I installed irda-utils and ircp-tray, but doesnt work, seems no reconize (regadless reboot)
I installed Lirc, doesnt work, gui mode only detect thinkpad buttons (I have lenovo thinkpad r61)

I have followed some tutorial what i found, but doesnt work.
I wonder If someone in forum have a infrared usb and how made it work.

But did you check it worked with linux?

many hardware dont tell you that can use in linux, but use to work, i thought it will work, i mistaken, for now !!
surely in expert hands will work, who knows
