You might try this site http://www.linmodems.org
Some are not free (for full speed) but seem to work if you know what chipset you have--the site shows how to find out.
While i love Mint if you have dial-up Mandriva offer better support for dial-up than Mint/Ubuntu. :)

Also tryhttp://www.linuxant.com/drivers
Lots of work but sometimes you get dial-up to work

winmodems are a pita in linux. Your best bet for a modem is an external serial modem with onboard controller.
thats what I used for dialup when I was stuck with it.
I have 2, I would love to sell by the way:-) I have broadband now.

I have found Linuxmint 11 will not find a serial modem on a usb cable or the internal windmodem but does find those cheap 10.00 usb winmodems from ebay, weird.

One piece of hardware I have never got along with since they came out"Winmodem" haven't gotten one to work for me since Window$ 3.11.
Had to get the modems that you used jumpers to set your com port and IO on the card then tell your OS what it was set at. The only ones that would work for me.

The cheap usb modems available on ebay for about 11.00 delivered are recognized by every Ubuntu derivative I have tried them on.

Also the Hiro internal pci winmodem.

For some reason I cannot get Linuxmint to recognize a serial modem.
