It should just recognise it, but you probably wouldn't notice anything until you put a disk in and, even then, you won't see anything in your File Manager if it's a blank disk, or if it only contains audio files.

To make absolutely sure there are no problems with the drive, you can run:

Code: Select all

tail -f /var/log/messages
In a terminal and then plug the drive in (presuming it's an USB drive). You should see messages about what the OS thinks of your drive. Use Ctrl-c to close the tail.

lsusb in a terminal or check the media directory on your desktop via the file manager you are using for inserted media, that is /media, not /home/???

And yes, it should just show up

Just installed lightscribe Labeler, i have 2 lightscrbe DVD /CD drives on my desktop and a external lightscribe drive, when i try to burn a disk it searches for a lightscribe drive, the green light flashers then it opens the desktop drives one first and say put a lightscribe disk in label side down, goes to burn it then a box comes up communication error and says close down the lightscribe program and try again, when that dose not burn the disk, says reboot your computer, tried it 5 times still get the error message
