Linux Mint 10 Julia no sound Dell Inspiron N5010 (solved)

Hello, i installed Linux Mint 10 Julia on my Dell Inspiron N5010. Everything is ok, but i have no sound, i tried everything what was mentioned on this forum and on google. Maybe some ideas?

Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 05)

I don't know if you tried this already but try to see the volume levels, in terminal write this

alsamixer

pavucontrol

gnome-volume-control

and see the volume levels on all three places, maybe it down/muted somewhere.

Answer to this: mint@mint ~ $ alsamixer
cannot open mixer: No such file or directory

Others are ok.

What to do now?

Just to make sure which mint are you using, Ubuntu based or Debian based?

To be honest i don't know what to do now, you could try to install alsa-utils from the synaptic package manager if you are using the Main ubuntu based edition.

You will have to wait for someone with a little more experience, sorry.

go under Hardware and try to change the settings at the bottom of the screen.

And you are using the ubuntu based mint..

I have nothing to change there, there are no options available.

Have you tried to install the package i mentioned earlier?
That's the only thing that i can suggest at this point, when you install it, reboot you comp and then try to run

in terminal and see if it will give you control panel it should look like this.

This is after you installed the alsa-utils package from the Synaptic Manager? If it's not already installed, have you checked?

If it is, i'm sorry i can't help you out, maybe you will need drivers

run this command and paste the output here to see what chip-set you have

Problem solved after installing Mint 11 Katya. Everything just fine.
