Re: numeric keypad not working

Hello,
by looking for this issue (on a Toshiba Satellite laptop L350 21u, not a good model if you ask me btw) I found your thread. I don't see the point in posting all these but here is what solved it for me:

Go to your keyboard preferences > Mouse Keys > DISABLE "pointer can be controlled using the keypad".

I hope this has solved it for you (and other people who had this issue).

My gosh!

Thanks, so much! That seemed to be it. I do recall enabling "mouse keys", but assumed that they would operate only with NumLock OFF. Assumptions made by users can mismatch those made by developers, and I dare say, sometimes easily.

SO helpful!

Best regards, and many pounds of thanks,

That solved my problem. The numeric keypad would stop working after some time. When I disable mouse keys, it immediately began to work again. I've not had the problem since.

I can't get numlock to work, and when I go to Keyboard Preferences, I don't see anything about Mouse Keys! I have tabs for Typing, Shortcuts, and Layout.
I'm running Mint 18.2 Sonya on a Dell E6500.
(Numlock works on my dual-boot Win 7).

EDIT: I should have added that when I try to enable numlock, and press J, K, or L, nothing happens. Blank--no jkl, nothing.

I know this is kind of old, but hopefully this helps anyone using a newer edition of Mint...

I found the option to disable this under Accessibiliity->Mouse->Control the pointer using the keypar

Thanks! This helped me to get my number keypad working. My problem is on every boot I have to go to Settings>Accessibility>Mouse>Mouse Keys and then toggle the switch to get it to work. Anyone know of a fix or work around so that I can automatically toggle it on start up?

Edit: I found the problem was a script I wrote ( probably very poorly ) which turned on my keyboard led. I have been using Mint 19 and a Coolermaster Devastator 2 keyboard. I had a shell script running on startup and using 'xset led on' which turned on the led light but disabled my numeric keypad. I changed to 'xset led 3' and it is working.
