Hi
I installed Mint 11 64-bit on my HP Pavilion dv6-6193. The laptop comes with dual graphics, an Intel sandy bridge integrated graphics and an ATI Radeon 5490M 1GB.
When I try to adjust the screen brightness, the hot-keys bring up the brightness applet and show that changing. However the actual screen brightness does not change.
I checked /proc/acpi and there is no /proc/acpi/video.
I tried booting with combinations of 'acpi_osi=Linux' and 'acpi_brightness=vendor'. No luck!
Any suggestions?
TIA!

I think its supposed to be "acpi_backlight=vendor"?mehraan wrote: 'acpi_brightness=vendor'

Same problem here (though dv6-6151, Radeon 6770M (blacklisted, running Intel graphics only).
Tried those boot tags but they made no difference.
There are a few things that aren't working on this laptop under linux, but the LCD brightness is the most inconvenient., if you don't count the hybrid graphics
I can reduce the brightness using
for example, but haven't found anything to suggest that could be somehow linked to the hotkey inputs.
Interested to hear any theories!

I can reduce the brightness using
Code: Select all
xrandr --output LVDS1 --brightness 0.5
