I have usb 2.0 but only USB 1.1 is being detected by Linux

Post by ajayvarma »

Hi, I am new to Linux . I have a Biostar G31D-M7 motherboard, I have checked on my motherboard seal cover and it shows written there that all the usb ports on this motherboard are usb 2.0. However after I installed Linux Mint ( which is the only OS I have ) whenever I connect a micro sd card or a pen drive, I can only copy my files to them with a maximum speed of 1.2MB/s, I think the USB 2.0 is capable of transferring the data much faster, do I need to install any drivers for that, if yes please provide the link to the drivers as I am unable to find any. Thank you :)
Here are my computer specifications..
Motherboard: Biostar G31d-M7
Processor : 2x Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz
Memory : 4058MB (765MB used)
Operating System : Linux Mint 11 Katya
NVidia 1GB Graphics Card

Any help would be appreciated , thankyou:)

What your terminal says if you ask him for

Linux/Unix is about freedom, Windows about slavery.

It shows the following lines:
Bus 003 Device 008: ID 05e3:0723 Genesys Logic, Inc. GL827L SD/MMC/MS Flash Card Reader
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:c52e Logitech, Inc.
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

Wow, but I don't understand why it shows only 1.1 root hub not 2.0.. here are the specs for my motherboard...

What can I do to change those to 2.0?

Boot into the BIOS and confirm USB 2 is enabled.

Ah!! Thank you Lanser, that did the trick for me... , the usb 2.0 somehow got disabled in the BIOS menu, I enabled it in the North bridge the usb 2.0 is working on my Linux Mint now. Thank you so much:)
