Problem with reception on Skype

Post by wpshooter » Sun Nov 06, 2011 8:23 pm

I have my brother using Linux Mint 11 on his home computer.

He is telling me that when attempting to communication with my niece who is at college from his webcam via Skype program installed on his HOME Linux Mint machine, that my niece can see and hear my brother on her M/S windows based computer at school but he can not see nor hear her on his home Linux Mint based computer.

Any ideas as to why his Linux Mint machine is not RECEIVING (but yet is apparently sending fine) communications via Skype ?

P.S. - This apparently is NOT a problem with my niece's computer because she can communicate back and forth between other parties via Skype just fine, just on my brother's Linux Mint computer that can not receive her Skype broadcasts.

it may have something to do with what are called input and output devices;

if you left-click on the sound icon bottom-right and then click on sound preferences you get such things as I include as images;

if you check that what you want to hear sound from; and talk into; are the selected devices ?????

and you also need to check in Skype itself;

an option there to select devices
