Keyboard backlight on Sony Vaio S / Mint 12

Hi, I'm running Linux Mint 12 on Sony Vaio VPCS123FG as dual boot with with Windows 7. Is there a way I can make the keyboard backlight function with light sensor work in Mint? I have tried googling but it seems only Apple laptops have a fix.

On my Sony laptop I created the file /etc/modprobe.d/sony-laptop.conf with the contents:

Code: Select all

options sony-laptop kbd_backlight=1

Restart and your keyboard backlight should start working.

If you want to fiddle with it from the command line you can use:

Code: Select all

echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/kbd_backlight
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/kbd_backlight_timeout

I don't have the ambient light sensor but supposedly the settings can be tweaked in:

/sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/als_*

Thank you! :) I will look that up and see what I can tweak. I have actually reverted to Katya now due to several factors, but it might be useful to tackle the opposite problem here (backlight is on when active regardless of ambient light).
