I have installed "Lisa" (32 bits), and I have bought a new HP printer (USB connection), and I have installed HPLIP.
But when trying to print a test page in HP Device Manager this message pops up:
Unable to communicate with printer Officejet-6000-E609a.
I have asked HP support, they do not ordinarily support Linux, but the support person is a Debian user, and has studied my syslog. She tells me that there is some sort of conflict between Lisa and my HP printer.
Anyone having experience with this?
.........
HP run me through some testing of the hardware, and concluded that the printer was defect.

You could try using the HP linux install wizard http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install.html to update hplip.
[Edit] your original post and add [SOLVED] once your question is resolved.

No, I am sorry, there was no change. Lisa recognized the printer, but cannot communicate.remoulder wrote:You could try using the HP linux install wizard http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install.html to update hplip.

Please install the kernel update from Synaptic Package Manager: Status > Installed (upgradeable), mark linux-headers (twice) and linux-image for upgrading.

I have done this, but now the print and print testpage icons have diappeared from the Actions tab in HP Device Manager.AlbertP wrote:Please install the kernel update from Synaptic Package Manager: Status > Installed (upgradeable), mark linux-headers (twice) and linux-image for upgrading.
Then I did a reboot, and everything was back to the way it was originally. No communication with the printer when trying to print a test page, but all icons were back in place in the device manager.
