USB Drives "read only" after system update

I'm having a problem on two machines that were working fine until I ran update manager on them yesterday, a desktop and a laptop running 18.3 Sylvia Xfce.

I am unable to copy files to USB sticks without getting a "destination is write only" error message. I can create and delete directories on the USB drive, but if I try to copy a file I get the error message. This seems to affect ever USB drive I have (I've tried about five). I've also tried reformatting several drives, but get the same error message.

Any help?

I am having similar problem - can't copy files to a usb stick. My error message is a little different.
"Error while copying {name of file}
There was an error copying the file into /media/usb0.
Show more details had this:
"Error opening file '/media/usb0/{name of file}:Permission denied.
I can copy files from the usb stick to my desktop with no problem.
This all started a couple days ago. Don't know why.

I have the same problem, and I'm on Mint 17.3 Cinnamon. Anyone got any suggestions ?

I have had similar problems and did a few experiments.

If you log into the directorys as a Sudo, you can write on your USB anything you like.

Not a fix, but a getaround.
