mount: /dev/sdb1: can't read superblock

Post by bturrell »

My wife's phone (Samsung Galaxy S4) has a micro SD card. All of the sudden the phone stopped reading the card. She put the card into her computer and it still won't read. The error message is:
Error mounting /dev/sdb1 at /media/cassandra/7CC6-19DC: Command-line `mount -t "vfat" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,shortname=mixed,dmask=0077,utf8=1,showexec,flush" "/dev/sdb1" "/media/cassandra/7CC6-19DC"' exited with non-zero exit status 32: mount: /dev/sdb1: can't read superblock
Is there any way to recover the data on the disk before reformatting?

Thanks,
Ben

Probably, try photorec. It has some very comprehensive instructions on their site:
