USB flash mounted only when wireless mouse off

Post by rotozeev »

There is a strange problem. I use LinuxMint 18.1 Cinnamon 64bit (on laptop Lenovo G50) and I have wireless mouse logitech with USB transmitter. When I insert USB flash into other USB port nothing happens, system doesn't see my flash drive. But, when I pull out mouse USB transmitter and insert my flash drive again - wow! it works and mounted! Then I again insert mouse transmitter and thus I have mounted flash drive and working wireless mouse simultaneously. This problem appears with 32Gb flash drive Kingston. 8 Gb Transcend has not this problem and it is mounted without pulling out the mouse. When I use wire mouse all is OK with any USB flash drive.

Of course, this is not critical issue, but it is interesting, is my case is unique?

If it's not some banal mechanical issue (i.e., your Logitech receiver when inserted puts just enough mechanical pressure on the port one way or the other to provide for bad contact with poor contacts on the Kingston itself) the other possibility would be power-draw. Maybe the Kingston is (upon insertion only, likely) power-hungry enough that the Logitech receiver's additional draw is just too much. Shouldn't be, but, well...
