I am running LMDE Cindy with Cinnamon and from the moment I installed the OS (few weeks ago) I cannot safely remove any external storage devices (harddrive and USB). If I do this my system freezes, and I cannot do anything, my mouse also stop working, and music is stuck in a loop from that point.
So far, this has always happened when using nemo (4.0.6), (the last thing I see is a message saying something like "Do not remove external drive, still writing to it") and it also, most of the time (not always, but I only had success with USB) happens when using `udisksctl -b unmount *devicename*`.
Before I was using Linux Mint Rosa (17.3) and I didn't had this problem on this laptop, so I suspect the software is the problem. I could find this (https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/issues/1899), but it says the problem was solved with nemo 4, which wasn't the case for me, and since the same happens with the terminal I am not sure nemo is to blame here.
I am happy with any solution/work-around to safely remove my external storage devices including using other software (GUI or CLI).
