External USB drive with partitions for Linux, Windows, and OSX

I am thinking about buying a largish hard drive and putting some backups from Linux, Windows, and OS X on it. The drive is really a larger size than I need but I would like to still maximize the usefulness of the drive.
-There will be a backup partition for files from Linux, Windows, and OS X (ext4, ntfs, and hfs). In the case of at least Linux, would be used by Backintime. Maybe comparable backup programs for the other operating systems, too.
-Partitions with disk images.
-Partition for Timeshift.
-Linux or OSX bootable partitions. I was reading somewhere that only OSX can boot to an external drive and that Linux cannot. However, I recently personally booted to an external Linux drive so I guess I was reading outdated information?
I read that Timemachine (the OSX comparable of Backintime) need the GUID partition table. Will the GUID partition table still work for other parts of "the plan?"

Yes.
