cassandra not mounting DVDs or USB Media.

Post by dm_fw » Tue Jun 12, 2007 3:15 pm

Cassandra it is not correctly mounting DVDs or USB Media (Fat32 or NTFS). When I plug in the media, the OS will sometimes see it but mostly ignore the insert.

On the DVDs, the OS will pop up a window with the DVD directory, but the DVD icon does not appear on the desktop.

Finally, when the media is mounted in a R/W mode and I eject it, the OS tries to write data back to the media prior to eject, however it does not write the data and therefore I can never eject the media.

Is this a issue with setup of the OS or a bug? Eg. what can I change to correct this issue.

Finally, this was not an issue with Mint 2.2

Have you upgraded the kernel?
The 2.6.20-16 version seems to give problems with harddisks and the like, at least if you have an Intel ICH chipset
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
