filesystem seems broken

Post by youyou54 »

Hello all,
I have a filesystem issue. Some of my directories cannot be reached, when i do a ls on it, I have a lot of

Code: Select all

ls: Cannot access 'directory name/file in the directory': Permission not granted,
and also this kind of output for ls:

Code: Select all

total 0
d????????? ? ? ? ? ? ./
d????????? ? ? ? ? ? ../
-????????? ? ? ? ? ? file1.txt
-????????? ? ? ? ? ? file2.txt
I tried to repair the EXT4 partition by using the disks utilities, but it didn't help, and i have now some strange behavior: the side bar of the file explorer disappeared, and my screenshot dont work if the partition is mounted, it works only if I unmount it in disks ....

Code: Select all

I would try booting to a live session of Linux Mint (or anything that has GParted), open GParted, right-click on the offending partition(s), select "Check", and then the "Apply" button.

interesting it seems i can reproduce the problem by doing a

Code: Select all

chmod -R 660 ./<directoryname>
on a directory on this partition .... If i try with

Code: Select all

chmod -R 770
or something else, it's working ...

maybe a bug? should i report this?

edit: the problem appears only if i set the user permissions to 6 with chmod
working:

Code: Select all

chmod -R 766
not working:

Code: Select all

chmod -R 666

The "execute" bit on a directory governs ability to access/enter the directory; permission 6 (binary 110 i.e. rw-) denies said ability. That's to say, everything seems to be working as intended. What do you feel the issue to be?
