How are you copying the files?

Re: copying to external HDD stuck (too slow)
I tried Nemo's copy paste, also midnight commander and cp. mc and nemo show me a drop to 1MB per second speed after 1GB transfer of a 20GB file. cp stuck for hours.Boca wrote: ⤴Sat Jul 03, 2021 5:08 am How are you copying the files?

Re: copying to external HDD stuck (too slow)
Consider using rsync which is usually faster than cp.
I use
NB the trailing slash after the SourceLocation
The switches are:-
-v, -- increase verbosity
-r, -- recurse into directories
-u, -- skip files that are newer on the receiver
There's a tutorial here... https://www.digitalocean.com/community/ ... irectories
I use
Code: Select all
tony@tony-ThinkPad-X250:~$ rsync -ruv SourceLocation/ BackupLocation
The switches are:-
-v, -- increase verbosity
-r, -- recurse into directories
-u, -- skip files that are newer on the receiver

I tried big_writes in mount options and helped a bit. made it ~3MB per second faster.
any other solution?
