Have to Check on Disks Every Time I Boot the OS

Post by dumb_apple »

Hello everyone and thanks in advance for reading.
I run a dual-boot system with Windows 10 at the moment.
I run Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon.
After the OS installation every time I boot up the system I have to go to Files and click on every hard drive in the "Devices" section so that the OS could "recognize" it. Kinda..?
If I try to open any file that is in any other place than my File System, it'll show me an error prompt about the files are missing from the requested location with a recommendation to check the address. If I don't do this after booting then all the applications installed won't find any files that are on my storage devices.
It is not an annoying thing to consider per se but I wonder if such a thing could lead to more serious problems in the future.

Re: Have to Check on Disks Every Time I Boot the OS

It's because those other filesystems (partitions) aren't mounted.

fix your /etc/fstab to mount those filesystems (partitions) at boot. If you need instructions, please provide details about the partitions and where they should be mounted.

Partition details can be gotten with the command

Code: Select all

lsblk

You can have those partitions automagically mount at boot by adding a line(s) to the file /etc/fstab; the syntax and such is rather esoteric if you're not familiar with it, so you might try using the "Disks" (actually gnome-disks) program;
Try an internet search on

Code: Select all

linux gnome-disks auto-mount fstab
