Re: Need advice external hard drive
External, so how are you connecting it? Via USB? If so it will work, or it certainly should. I'd tend to format ext4.flyingdragon wrote: ⤴Thu Sep 23, 2021 4:15 am I need an new external hard drive but i see only will work only with Windows or MAC. Re: Need advice external hard drive
they will typically come with an NTFS formatted drive, as an rule,
and those drive's can be read/write quite satisfactory by most Linux Systems.
you could re-format the drive to ext4 .. if you wished to,
but then it may not as as readily available to any Windows System.

Re: Need advice external hard drive
I use Adata ssd drives and have done for a few years now. They all work and I have never had a problem.
For the system I have a SE800 500 gigabytes (much faster than my 860 evo)
for backups I have HD710 3 at 2 terabytes
format ext4
Best regards Keith

Re: Need advice external hard drive
Any external drive will work.
If you don't plan to transfer it around and connect it to windows systems format it with ext4 or xfs. xfs is better for big files.
If you plan to move it around fat32 or ntfs. fat32 it's fully compatible and you can even fix errors that may appear but with a restriction of 4gb maximum filesize. ntfs it's better but not fully compatible. Read-cut-copy-paste-work but if errors appear you cannot fix them on linux mint. You will need a windows pc. There is also exfat which is like fat32 but faster and with no restriction on filesize but again you cannot fix errors.
