Hello,
I have been reading this forum and others to try to solve my problem with Mint 20.2 Cinnamon to even read CDs and DVDs. No luck yet. Here is the situation:
Will not read/play (disks app shows no media and drive does not spin up disk)
Anything Audio or video, CD or DVD
Blank media
Commercial data media (CD)
Created CD/DVD, both audio and data
Will read:
Linux Mint DVD that I used to install it on the PC
Commercial data DVD (Official Windows install DVD)
I have hooked up a USB external DVD drive and it will read/autoplay anything I throw at it.
On the audio side for commercial movies and audio CDs, I did install Ubuntu-Restricted-Extras as it was not present among several packages required to work properly.
This is a Dell Inspiron 530. Bios says it's 2009. 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200. DVD+-RW and I verified it's a SATA drive, NOT IDE.
ALL available updates post-install have been run.
Any ideas?
Doug

This could be a drive failure. Different detectors are used for data and cd/dvd.
Clean the lenses, uplug and reseat each end of the cable, but probably needs
replacement.
