unable to mount dataHDD

Post by hawksense8 »

Hi guys,

I am trying to mount my data hard drive (ntfs format) and keep getting weird error when i click the drive to mount. Image

I even tried to mount from Accessories -> Disks -> select my target partition "DataHDD" and got this weird error.
Mount DataHDD Drive Error.jpg
When i do mount -a, it throws a "Failed to calculate free MFT records: Success
Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap: Success
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
for more details."

1. Check the health of the disk
GSmartControl app --> " LOG " tab
should be something like
ATA Error Count: 0 (Note: The number of entries may be limited to the newest ones)
If GSmartControl not will work on Linux Mint, you can try from Live-CD / live-USB
for example from Ultimate Boot CD. There is a small system with this tool.

2. Make backup copies of important files to another disk.
Maybe
- from Knoppix Live Linux CD you can try mount hard drive ( even if it is damaged ) because driver worked differently.
- I do not know if Ultimate Boot CD also can
- Recuva is for Win...
- PhotoRec only searches for a given type of file

3. If you make copies of the files, you can try to repair the disk.
Just remember that disks don't live forever.
