Replacing the internal drive in the laptop.!

Post by sip »

Good day.
There was a question of replacement of the damaged HDD in the laptop. I have two options to choose from Samsung Samsung 500GB 2,5" SATA SSD 870 EVO and Kingston Kingston 480GB 2,5" SATA SSD A400.! Technical parameters allow the installation of such drives.
Tell me which is better to choose. ?? :)

This is not really a MInt question to be honest.
But the drives will both work fine.

Both drives are good I've had good Luck with the Samsungs. But either will work for you.
I would suggest after making your choice you read this though.

I have the Kingston A400, 480GB SATA SSD. I wouldn't recommend it, because it is dram-less. I noticed that it underperformed on my set-up. I since went with a Kingston KC600 SATA SSD, which has dram. It's faster for what I do. I also have on my other systems Samsung EVO drives and they are very good. My recommendation for you would be to go for the Samsung EVO 870.
System: Mint Cinnamon 21.1. CPU: Intel E7600. RAM: 4GB. Video: ATI HD 4830. SSD: Kingston KC600 512GB (boot-drive) & Kingston A400, 480GB (backup). Display: ASUS VA24DQ 23.8"

Specs certainly make the Samsung a better drive, but truth be told, I find both drives more than adequate for my modest usage, with the edge to the Samsung.

Hello! :) As promised, I will inform you friends about my decision! .. I install and walk from another laptop! .. :)
Installed Kingston A400, 480 GB SATA SSD...! :D

Code: Select all

Drives: Local Storage: total: 447.13 GiB used: 58.24 GiB (13.0%)
           ID-1: /dev/sda vendor: Kingston model: SA400S37480G size: 447.13 GiB speed: 6.0 Gb/s
serial: <filter> Speed, high - not comparable to my old HDD.. TThe room temperature of the processor dropped by 42 degrees Celsius, was 52
- I would like to ask the guys who are developing and supporting Linux Mint - can you expect the Mint to have the same installation system as Debian, namely the layout of disks in the format of little writing system and the like ..! ??
Installed his wife's laptop Debian 11.02 - pleasantly surprised at once you can configure the sections for a small amount of rewriting ...! :o

I want to thank everyone who shared their experience and knowledge! .. Thank you !. I love working for Linux Mint..!! :D

LM uses the ubuntu installer, ubiquity. This is due to be replaced by ubuntu. No idea what LMDE uses as I don't use it.

^^^ Interestingly, I never noticed much difference between, the Debian installer, ubuntu's, Mint's, Zoran's or any other Debian/ubuntu based distro. I really never paid much attention to any of them, as they all worked just fine and gave little to no indication of any difference at all.

I guess next time, I'll have to pay more attention.
