My Cannon Prixma G2000 Print+Copy+Scan, Print working properly but linux mint cannot find scaner.
"No scanner device found"-- same error message from SimpleScan & Xsane.
I am new to Linux, and Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia Cinnamon. Before that I was using Windows 7.

Follow the instructions on the following page for Ubuntu 18.04 (if that is what you are using) and this should get it done painlessly.

https://software.opensuse.org//download ... ne-airscan

Post back with the result of the following command so that pzz (higher being - dev) can see what he/she needs to see and add the hardware to the database.

Code: Select all

scanimage -L

Code: Select all

avahi-browse -rt _ipp._tcp

Code: Select all

avahi-browse -rt _uscan._tcp

It was worth a go. Maybe pbear or brianp will give you more helpful instructions.

On the sane-project.org website the Canon Pixma G2000 is listed as supported by the current version of the Sane scanner software. However, the current version is 1.0.30 whereas Mint has an older version 1.0.27 which doesn't seem to support it.

So you could try adding this PPA, provided by one of the Sane gurus, which should update your Sane to the latest stable version. Open a terminal and type these commands, one after the other:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rolfbensch/sane-release
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
You may then need to reboot. If that doesn't work, you could do a web search for the Canon driver scangearmp2 although that only works with its own user interface, not with Xsane or Simple Scan, and it is said to be rather limited. Or you could use a commercial product called Vuescan which you have to pay for but can try out for free.

Looks nice.
I might use it in a few years when this computer gets old and crusty.

If it works its sometimes best to not try to fix it.
I usually do updates for security reasons, but its likely that most of the xsane updates are just scanner signatures or tweaks to get other scanners working.
Best to look at the update log to check.

Hi, aniketsutradhar. It's not clear if this a second computer on which you're trying to install the scanner.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that you may be confusing Sane and XSane, which are not the same thing. Sane is the software already installed by default in Mint which enables many (not all) scanners to work in Linux. Xsane is a graphical frontend (user interface) for Sane. Xsane is not installed in Mint by default and isn't really needed if a user finds Simple Scan (which is included by default) to be sufficient for their needs.

I doubt you will be able to update Xsane because 0.99 is probably the latest version.

On the other hand, if you want to check what Sane version you have, you can enter scanimage -V in a terminal.
