Will the following driver work with Linux Mint? I have the MX922 so I thought this might work but I am not sure.

The Canon PIXMA MX922 is not identical to the Canon PIXMA MX920. I don't know if the Canon PIXMA MX922 will work with the MX920 driver, but this thread on the Debian forums indicate most likely it might work at least as well as anything http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=107321

I thought it might because the canon website mentioned the driver was for the 920 series. From what I have read canon printer drivers you have to get to as close to your model as possible you can't always find a driver specifically made just for your printer. Then you try a few until you find one that works. Is this true or hype? Thank you.

That is what I read also. Unfortunately, I don't know what as close to your model as possible means for your MX922.

I just installed Mint 16 Cinnamon and couldn't get any of the included Canon printers to work on my MX922.
I did download the package from Canon Asia linked in the first post, extracted it and ran install.sh using 1 - chmod +x install.sh then bash install.sh. The script asked if this was a network printer then went out and found it, then set it up as my default. Works well, but I've only printed some text and one photo, but it did both well, the photo was on the 4x6 stock and looks great.

so you went to the Canon website; and downloaded the linux drivers that Canon supply for your driver; there are deb packages; rpm packages; and source code; in both 32bit and 64bit forms
all went well; great;
you obviously feel fluent on the terminal: the command
as you way, Canon provide drivers for SERIES of printers..............so whether it is the 921 or 922 or 923 or whatever...........the SERIES 920 driver will be fine ...............
