Epson stylus sx218 driver

Post by Shunjoss »

Hi all !
The epson stylus sx218 is a multifonction printer(2-3 years old), that I have. But I can't do much with Linux (yet). It is impossible to scan, and the print test was not successful. And I can't see the ink level either.
I have Linux mint 17 (64bit) cinnamon (on a laptop). All in all I wanted to dish windows, I have only Linux now. It worked perfectly on windows 7, I want to avoid reinstalling windows as I don't use it anymore.
If someone can help me, I would appreciate it :D

My printer use usb to interact with computer, I plugged in. Driver were found by mint when "installing" it but nothing works :(.
Linux mint is awesome.

Epson provide linux drivers and the portal for their site is this http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/searc ... ch/?OSC=LX

If one enters 218 in the search field, you get offered printer and scanner drivers:

here is the link for the scanner driver: http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/du/02 ... e895005382

Firstly, install iscan-data_1.30.0-1_all.deb which is near the bottom of the list: it is the data file and when you click to download, gdebi installer should intercede and offer to install this for you: let it

Next: iscan_2.30.0-1~usb0.1.ltdl7_i386.deb or iscan_2.30.0-1~usb0.1.ltdl7_amd64.deb .............you choose which as you didn't tell us which you use:

that should get your scanner working ................. there should now be a programme called iscan in your menu and that should then drive the scanner: you can see if it works from xsane or simple scan which both use sane as their backend:

____________________________________________________

..............re-reading your post, seems like the printer side doesn't work .........

here is the link for the Epson printer driver for your 218: http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/du/02 ... 46dea9533d

again choose the 32bit or 64bit as is right for your system ...... that will create this new entry, and the older one? that does not work??

you can delete old entries by clicking on this link http://localhost:631/printers/ and editing entries ...... it may well ask you for your username and then password

let us know how it goes ..................

Thx I tried your method and now I can scan (if connected on USB 2.0 not on USB 3.0)
The print is of poor quality and I still can't see the ink level or doing "maintenance" things (changing cartridge and so on).
This is pretty annoying
Linux mint is awesome.

Mtink ink levels on Epson printer

Post by pdc_2 »

Hi Shunjoss: sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with ink levels: have a look at the forum where you have posted your concerns: go 2 posts up; and there is this long-standing post

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=27806

It talks all about ink levels and Epson printers

Here is a link that talks about mtink https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/applications/precise/mtink/

if you want to install it, if you go to Synaptic which is the software manager: it will under the S in the all applications section of the menu

have a read at the thread; (some forums would call it a sticky as it stays at the top of the postings for long-term access ..........)

I guess we have just used the warning light on our (Canon) printer and I then wait a little longer till the print starts to alter!

____________

I have installed a command-line utility for ink levels that is called ink http://ink.sourceforge.net/ and it works fine when I remember to run it
