I hope this information is useful to someone in Linuxmint land. I struggled for an eternity trying every piece of information and download i could find to get my Canon PIXMA MG6350 printer/scanner working on LinuxMint Cinnamon 17, but to little avail.
I run an AMD64 processor (therefore 64 bit machine), and LM17 had installed all the 64 bit drivers, as i guess it should. I finally got it working by instead installing the 32-bit drivers.
This is what i did:
I used the Synaptic Package Manager, and searched for "canon"; then I installed the 32-bit drivers instead of the 64 bit ones. Synaptic is smart and removes the 64 bit drivers at the same time.
Then I deleted and reconfigured (re-added) the printer using the Printers utility.
Then on the printers properties field, there is a "Make and Model" field. In there , i selected "Canon MG6300 series Ver. 3.90". (This is important. If you can't see this option, it may well not work, i think.)
After that i rebooted, and hey presto it finally worked.
It is possible to get Canon MG6350 working on LM17

Re: It is possible to get Canon MG6350 working on LM17
well done Craig;
so when you install "Canon MG6300 series Ver. 3.90" you are installing the linux (Debian) drivers that Canon supply; the Mint developers must be making these available;
for anyone looking directly for them, if one goes to the Canon Asia site http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/?personal and looks for the MG6300 series: ..............in some countries it will be a 6320; or a 6330; or a 6340; and for Asia, it will be likely 6370 ..
you end up here for linux drivers for the 6300 series
http://search-asia.canon-asia.com/canon ... DS%09Linux
and Mint; that uses Ubuntu; uses Debian packages so one ends here http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/cont ... tml?r=s&q=
and downloads cnijfilter-mg6300series-3.80-1-deb.tar.gz
in a terminal, the commands are
cd Downloads
tar -zxvf cnijfilter-mg6300series-3.80-1-deb.tar.gz
cd cnijfilter-mg6300series-3.80-1-deb.tar.gz
./install.sh
and the install script should help from there

Re: It is possible to get Canon MG6350 working on LM17
I have a problem with the same printer - with a client that I've installed LM17.1 Cinnamon 64 bit.
The Canon Pixma MG6350 printer can be seen both connecting via usb or wireless
... however, when printing, although Linux says it sees the printer, and the job is sent / has printed etc.etc.
=> nothing actually happens at the printer end !!
I also downloaded the files directly from the Canon site, but still no joy.
Any suggestions appreciated ...
Thx

Re: It is possible to get Canon MG6350 working on LM17
so AJC: welcome to the Mint forums; you sound very frustrated;
Canon supply drivers in linux format: it is just they are not there on a telephone to help you through each stage; and with every problem;
the Canon drivers for linux come in deb and rpm packages; and the source code; as you know linux is a bewildering array of individual distros.......more emerge every day .....................most folks in "linux" have fierce tribal loyalties to their individual distro ............
can you please tell us what and and if you click on this link http://localhost:631/printers/ can you tell us what is in column 4 entitled Make & Model? please
.........if you can give us a screenshot, all the better: if you press the PrintScreen button on your keyboard, it should do a whole screen screenshot and you can attach it to the post: bottom left for upload attachment

Re: It is possible to get Canon MG6350 working on LM17 [SOLV
Hi pdc_2
... yep, I've been using Linux Mint since ver 5/6 ... in it's various forms, and before that played with Ubuntu a little - until it went beserk with the unity bar (each to their own !!), but at that point another techie mate of mine suggested Linux Mint.
=> never looked back !!!
after 25+ years as an IT Support Engineer, to still have company's providing a product, but not supporting it, leaves me pointing to other alternatives (fairly quickly these days to be honest!!) ... I generally find contacting the source (in this case Canon), can be more enlightening re 'what is ahead' in getting a product to work.
well, I have some good news to report ... the issue appears to be related to a file that is not included in the more recent Linux releases : libtiff4
- there is a v5 release of that file, but Canon's install routine appears to be looking for the earlier version.
... so the process goes like this :
* download the libtiff4 file from : http://pkgs.org/ubuntu-12.04/ubuntu-mai ... 4.deb.html
(my link includes the 64bit version, but there are 32bit versions there)
* installed the deb file
* downloaded the printer driver from the Canon website
* extracted the files, and ran the install.sh in terminal
=> at the end of the routine in terminal, the install routine asks to register the printer
the install routine asks whether it is a network or usb connection (we were using wireless)
That's it ... we tested the printer - all worked ok.
Cheers Ajc

Re: It is possible to get Canon MG6350 working on LM17
well done; you are obviously a very skilled and seasoned professiona; yes, ubuntu removed libtiff4 in recent times; and Canon drivers < version 4.0 need it.
as an expert, you did a manual install of the two packages; for everyone else, most recommend the install script; If one uses the install script; that Canon provide; to support the user! .........it stops on the libtiff4 needed section......and issues a warning; I guess with manual install; you wouldn't get that;
_________
yes, Canon's newest releases all seem to come with a version 5 driver that isn't tailored for a specific model; so that again should help folks; they do continue to work on things
__________
you perhaps talk of linux as a unitary product; ..........with the multiple distros; and ones such as debian now forking into at least two ......... you would be an admirably skilled person to sit at a telephone and advise on issues with fedora, open suse, mandriva's many forks, ubuntu, mint, puppy etc ...........all with an equal fluency .......it would be great to have such wonderful people; you should have a read at the numbers of distros that Canon have checked out for their CAPT and UFR drivers; it is in their README files; it is quite impressive;

Re: It is possible to get Canon MG6350 working on LM17
This still works on 18.1 on March 25, 2017. Who needs 64-bit drivers, anyway?
