Epson recognized with no errors but no printing either...

Hi all,

I have looked over all the relevant posts on this forum and few others and haven't seen anyone having the same problem as me. I sure its something silly but I really can't figure out what I've done wrong.

I am running Mint 17 64-bit Cinammon and have installed an Epson XP-412 inkjet printer/scanner. I downloaded the all-in-one Epson driver (as discussed elsewhere on here) and had no problems. Everything appeared to download and install exactly as it should. The printer is recognized and both the computer and the printer seem to think that everything is running fine as there are no error messages. The problem is, whenever I try to print anything I just get a few random characters on the margin of the paper. I tested the printer separately (printing a scanned image) so I know the problem is not with the mechanics of the printer. Every test/diagnostic I run in Mint says that there is no problem and the drivers are all installed. I went back to insure that everything was configured correctly and as far as the system is concerned there is nothing wrong. And yet, no printing... just a few characters in the margin of the page and these characters do not correspond to the test document I was trying to print.

Without an error message I really have no idea what to look for. The problem seems to be related to the transfer of data from the computer to the printer, but I am drawing a blank (as is the printer).

Any ideas about what is wrong here? Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Is this the driver you installed?

epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.4.4-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb

I don't know anything about an all-in-one driver - where did you get that?

Are you using the printer with a wi-fi connection? If so, turn your firewall off or configure it to let communication through.
