Brother HL-L2300D Printer Install

I'm a noob, just intalled Mint Serena. Need to get my Brother HL-L2300D printer working. Need all the help I can get. This is all new frontier for me. Thanks in advance.

I followed the instructions and everything looked like it went as it was supposed to but the printer still won't install. Click the add printer and the printer is listed but there are no drivers available. Have I missed a command line or some sort of search to do for the drivers?

did you look at step 3a in that tutorial?.
- then follow with the rest of step 3 ..

Yes, I followed all the steps, downloaded the required file and entered all the commands in the terminal, everything looked like it went through but the drivers still aren't available to the Add Printer window

with that Brother model, it didn't use the Add Printer window,
but rather installed that model printer & it's associated dialogue screen(s)
& then asked to print a test page.

IE: you shouldn't have to add anything - with the Add Printer window ..

I guess I'm not understanding the process. I downloaded the drivers for the HL-L2300D. Then opened the terminal and entered the commands. Wasn't asked to print a test page. Have I missed a step or a command? I cut and pasted everything, rebooted twice now. Do I need to look for the printer somewhere other than the printer menu?

with mine - I'd followed the instructions on the Brother web site,
& found that their "Driver Install Tool" didn't work.

so - I'd downloaded the two other files, which are both quite small.
& found that it Did make a difference, in the order that they were installed:
- one way worked, & the other way didn't work.
but, unfortunately, I'm no longer able to remember which file went 1st / 2nd.


so try installing one way, & see if that works,
& try installing them in the other order, & see if that works.

IE: try the LPR file 1st & then the CUPS file 2nd,
& if that doesn't work,
try the CUPS file 1st & the LPR file 2nd.

I've a suspicion that the LPR file may have to install before the CUPS printer - is installed.
- you should be able to just D/click on each *.deb file, in order to install it.
no terminal required, that is.

That worked, installed the LPR then the CUPS. Software installed and the test page printed. Printed a couple other pages. Works great, got my printer up and running. thanks for you help and patience.
