service saned

Post by Hillybilly »

Box 1 i5-4690 kernel 4.4.0-83 eth to router. Box 2 wireless direct. Both can address 2 printer/scanners.
Been trying ways of speeding wireless network scanner detection which is ridiculously slow.
Both scanners *are* only detected after 2 minutes so have ensured saned.socket and saned@.service are exactly as per official help.ubuntu.com/community/SaneDaemonTutorial. Also tried net.conf with scanner (static) IPs and localhost.
However Box1:
$systemctl list-unit-files shows
"saned.socket bad" so service doesn't start/restart: "code=exited, status=1/FAILURE"
/etc/systemd/system/saned.socket:10] Missing '='
$systemctl shows
saned.service loaded failed failed LSB: SANE network scanner server
then further down
saned.socket loaded active listening saned incoming socket
So is an active listening socket running or not?
$systemctl enable saned.socket gives "Failed to execute operation: Invalid argument"
$journalctl -xe shows:
Mint saned[3770]: do_bindings: [0] bind failed: Address already in use //but I cleared out all the IPs and localhost.

On Box1 $service saned restart fails "Job for saned.service failed because the control process exited with error code.".
On Box2 $service saned restart fails "saned.service is masked". Maybe that this one is different because I've changed something in Box1 but its not good that both boxes have a problem. I have not poked any of Box2 files.

So I'm lost and out of depth.
Any clues - are there some other files in /usr or /lib I need to address? Tks
