Hey,
I'm using Linux Mint 18.1 and just bought this printer. Firstly I've noticed linux was recognizing the printer and it's under the printer app as "XP-240 series" so I said, awesome no work to do. But I've discovered the simple-scan app wasn't finding any scanners so I went looking for the drivers.
I've discovered there's drivers for the printer part and for the scanning part, which I downloaded from the EPSON website (http://download.ebz.epson.net/). I downloaded and installed packages of the generic, the official and the all in one drivers for amd64 computers.
Whenever I try to print any text or the test page I only get a few symbols (+, &, $) on the sides of the paper. And if I try to print a whole page full of text from libre office, the sheet goes through the printer andnothing comes out.
Simple scan now recognizes the printer but it won't do anything when I press scan. Xsane does scan but fails at doing a preview.
I don't know where to start with this, it's deeply frustrating.
EDIT: Added how I solved it at the end. Looks like when I hooked up my printer, it put on the wrong drivers.

Re: Epson all in one XP-241 printing blank pages
so if I start here http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/searc ... ch/?OSC=LX ....... and enter xp-241, I end up here http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/du/02 ... 2fc58077f2 and for a 64bit Debian, (which mint uses .....), Epson recommend epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.6.13-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
so if you open a terminal and copy this command
(to paste into a terminal, right-click at the text prompt; and select PASTE from the menu ........... similarly to copy from a terminal ........... select the text you wish to copy, and right-click to find COPY .......
_________
how is the XP connected to your system please?
________
The scanner driver seems to be from here http://support.epson.net/linux/en/image ... ion=1.3.20 and Epson have a Mint 18 section there and you would get imagescan-bundle-linuxmint-18-1.3.20.x64.deb.tar.gz
and the manual page is here http://download.ebz.epson.net/man/linux ... nv3_e.html and sadly one does sometimes have to tweak files to get the scanner going
so if you open a terminal and copy this command
, and then copy the result; and paste it back here, it should tell us what drivers you have installeddpkg -l epson-inkjet-printer*

The printer is connected via USB.
The output is:

There where two, the other one must have been one that I added manually and it didn't work.
Just noticed the name of the printer in the printers menu changed slightly (same name just added a "-"). That prompted me to try printing, which it did....sort of.
Printed and halted half way and the sheet of paper is now stuck midway. I remember that happened the first time I originally tried printing. Adding the specific drivers got me the sheet going by but now I'm back at square one. Just earlier I updated the linux kernel manually, maybe that did something.
This is a picture of how the printer looks on the menu http://imgur.com/F7Eemfw
EDIT: Just got the sheet out. It reads: "If you can read this, you are using the wrong driver for your printer"
Re: Epson all in one XP-241 printing blank pages
SOLVED!
After googling my epson printer I found a portuguese forum which added epson drivers to the system (why is this not natively installed?)
After that I could manually add a printer and select newer versions of Epson drivers. Epson XP-235 worked for my Epson XP-241. It did the test page perfectly.

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install printer-driver-escpr
