Hi!
I had the gui working before for my HP Deskjet 2540 Series, but I did not use the printer for a long time, for some reason the gui could not load the printer prompting not being able to connect with network printer. I noticed that in synaptic the "HP Linux Printing and Imaging System (HPLIP) was not installed, and "HP...Print... -GUI utilities (Qt-based) so I selected both and installed them. Now the GUI is not opening at all. My printer is working through the KDE Control Module wireless, my issue is with the GUI so far. This is my system. HP currently with, hpcups 3.15.7
I would appreciate the help on the matter.

Hi,
I have the same printer, although I use Mint 18.2 Cinnamon. hplip 3.16.3 from the 18.x repos works fine, but the hplip-gui app wasn't fully functional.
I ended up removing both (along with all the other 3.16.3 related HP packages/drivers) and installing the current version 3.17.10 direct from HP -
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... g/gethplip
The file downloaded is a script which will install any necessary dependencies and build the latest hplip suite from scratch including a fully functional GUI front-end.

Hi!
I have not been home to check on the replies. I tried to find the "PRINTER folder" as per the first reply, but I don't know where to find this folder. I checked the link as per the second reply, but I am trying to use what is recommended by using Synaptic packages, if no other fixes are found, then I will resource to install from HP link.
I ran commands "sudo apt-get install hplip-gui" and "hp-check -t" thereby getting this info:
Code: Select all

1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied
tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully
compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package
(.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies
installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of
the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).
Check types:
a. EXTERNALDEP - External Dependencies
b. GENERALDEP - General Dependencies (required both at compile and run time)
c. COMPILEDEP - Compile time Dependencies

I see a bunch of "REQUIRED" words, which I don't have a clue how to go about and fix them. The printer works fine with the "Printer KDE Control Module" I am able to use both ways: USB and Wireless. My problem is with the hplip-gui to be able to use the software or full functions. I would appreciate the help.

1) to find the PRINTERS folder; ........... try
MENU ....... (bottom-left) ...... up and to the right to
ADMINISTRATION ....... do you see
PRINTERS in there?
2) My take on your hp-setup report is
Missing Required Dependencies
-----------------------------
None
Missing Optional Dependencies
-----------------------------
None
all I do see is
error: hpmudext IO-Extension REQUIRED 3.15.7 MISSING 'Not Found or Failed to load, Please reinstall HPLIP'
......... to me, all else seems good in the report; I would have thought the command
run from a terminal would do a re-install of hplip; you have version 3.15.7 installed; that is fine as HP only ask for > 3.13 for the 2540
3) to open a terminal, it is the black TV screen on the bottom line of the menu bar; start typing the commands at the flashing text point; or paste commands by right-clicking at the flashing text prompt

1. I followed the steps to find "PRINTERS" folder, but all I see is: Applications, Computer, Recently used, Leave.
2. I ran the command "hp-setup" and ran it with sudo just in case, here:
