<SOLVED>driver for hp multifunctional machine

Post by kost »

Hello,

I'm running linux mint in my pc. I am thinking to buy this multifunctional https://support.hp.com/my-en/drivers/se ... el/7317524. In hp site says that "For Linux downloads, HP recommends another website. If you need to download Linux drivers, you will be directed to a website that is outside HP Customer Support."

Does linux mint contain already drivers for this multifunctional?? What shall I do??

Hi "kost",

HP printers, including multi-function printers (MFP), should work well in Linux Mint without installing anything outside of the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM).

But, you can also go to their Linux drivers website for their most current drivers. Below is a link to install the HP Open Source drivers. click the button "Download HPLIP", save the file somewhere like your "/Downloads" folder, or create a new "hp-printer" folder in your "/home" folder, and save it there, and follow the instructions ...

HP Linux Imaging and Printing; Print, Scan and Fax Drivers for Linux
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... g/gethplip

HP driver installation Instructions
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... tall/index

FYI-1: I found that creating a new folder (directory) for the HP drivers in my "/home" folder, ex: "/hp-printer", and copying, or saving, the downloaded installation file, like "hplip-3.17.10.run", into that folder and running it from there worked cleaner & better. Lately, when I ran the HP install from my "/home" folder, it created a lot of HP printer stuff (extra files and folders) in my "/home" folder that I did not want there.

~/hp-printer > sh hplip-3.17.10.run

Hope this helps ...

HP DeskJet Advantage 4670 only needs hplip 3.15

Post by pdc_2 »

so kost; that 4670 only needs > 3.15 of hplip ........ the software that will configure the printer ........ that should covera ll recent versions of Mint ......... just plug it in and it should work;

I found with an initial wireless connection that the HP didn't connect; it didn't trust ...... so I just used usb and that seemed to establish "trust"!! so then it accepted the wireless entries and is now wireless!

........ so you should be fine with your existing software; no need for new installs ...........

Hi,
HP printers are well supported in Mint and it should work fine without having to install any additional drivers.
I use hplip-gui which is in the repository and can be installed via synaptic package manager.
It allows for a nice graphic hp printer control manager that will give ink level , etc.
Works great.

If you are going to set it up wireless then I would suggest you set the printer to a static IP address and not DHCP.
good luck
