Post by Mithrandir » Wed Jan 03, 2018 8:16 pm

Hi, I'm trying to install this printer on my Mint 18.3 kde, but I didn't find anything here in the forum and on the web.
Anyone could help me?
Thanks in advance =)

so the site OpenPrinting http://www.openprinting.org/printers is the source for information using open-source drivers;

there for Toshiba, http://www.openprinting.org/printers/ma ... er/Toshiba there are a large number of e-studio variants that are said to work perfectly; and others that work partially

for those that work perfectly, some eg the 165 http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Tos ... Studio_165 seem to use what is called Postscript-Toshiba and its page is here http://www.openprinting.org/driver/Postscript-Toshiba

I would imagine you could download the ppd file; use the change function on the text editor to change eg 165 to the device you have (181) at each point that 165 is mentioned;

then save the edited ppd file to the directory /usr/share/ppd (this is where the database of ppd files is kept ... when installed by cups I understand it gets copied to /etc/cups/ppd https://www.linuxquestions.org/question ... tu-337393/

then one goes to the PRINTERS folder; clicks ADD at top left; selects to use ppd file ........... points the system to your edited ppd file ........... hopefully you get it going ...........

_______________

if not, I suggest you delete the icon for what is not working; from the PRINTERS folder; then use a Generic postscript driver; as described on the Postscript-Toshiba page; from here http://www.openprinting.org/driver/Postscript ...

Thank you for your attention
I tried to install it with ppd, the system identify the printer on the usb port, but when I open the setting program to install the printer it doesn't appear.
If I try to install it manually, I don't know in the window doesn't appear a usb printer but only:

Local Printers:
HP Printer (HPLIP)
Serial Port #1
Serial Port #5
HP Fax (HPLIP)

or network printers. What is it the better choice in these local printers?
