SOLVED can not install Canon TS8053 printer

Hi.
After many tries I gave up to install the Canon TS8053 printer.
Have the drivers dwnloaded from Canon itself.
I'm not experienced with this issue.
Someone who knew how to do?

so I would start at the Canon Asia site http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/cont ... 39901.html and click to download and SAVE what will be cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb.tar.gz

then I would open a terminal and line by line paste in the commands below; hit the ENTER key after each paste ........

tar -zxvf cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb.tar.gz

cd cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb

then one runs the install script; so watch it run as it may ask you questions; have your sudo password handy

that should do all for you

and You know what, I shame to tell, i downloade the wrong package, redhat instead of the deb version

glad it is all working for you: enjoy! It looks like a really fine printer you have there;

in a few months, life should get easier on Mint for setting up printers: the release of Mint that follows Ubuntu 18.04 will have the airprint in it, that Ubuntu has had since 17.04 so if you were to have waited till July!!! to connect the printer, likely Mint would have done it automatically; and shown "driverless" as the option https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT201311

...... essentially all printers released in the last several years all seem to be "airprint-compatible" ...........

Thanks for the solution!

Now I have problem with the scanner. Built in the TS8053
Downloaded the scangearmp2-3.40xxx from Canon.
Installed it with sudo ./install.sh
Install succeeded.
After that I can see some files in some folders.

But I can not and don't know how to "start" the scanner itself. No menus and nothing when I check the Printers menu.

The Simplescan and Xsane programs says there is no scanner.

Touching the printer's display, scan and send to computer - it searches and then nothing happens.

If You or someone else can help me with this issue I appreciate

they say I need the kernel 4.4.xxx and I have 4.1...xxxx Can that solve the problem?
Change kernel?

I do not know the syntax/command to do that in a terminal.
write sudo upgrade kernel xxx? or what?

so you have installed the Canon drivers; if you do

scangearmp2

then that should load up the Canon interface; all good?

one then sets up a "launcher": to launch ScanGearMP2

1) right-click on the bottom toolbar;
2) click the top entry: ADD TO PANEL
3) select CUSTOM ... top of list .. click ADD at the bottom of the new panel that has opened ..
4) the command must be

in the COMMAND line: the rest is up to you;

the open-source scanning capability (Simple Scan and Xsane) come from SANE:
its list says the TS8000 series is untested; and needs testers: you could play a big part in helping here: you have the hardware;

As I told earlier I installed the scangearmp2 file from the Canon itself. Remember to use the terminal and
sudo ./install.sh
After that nothing happened.

But now, after reading your lines above I plugged in the USB cabel from the Canon TS8053 printer and powered on.
Then in a terminal window and typed scangearmp2
Now the wonder happened, there came up first a small Gray window asking me where to put the scanned file. Choosed a place and clicked Save. After that the scanner started to work!!!
Wow!!

Now happy I tried to make an icon to the panel. The difference is you must change to "Application in Terminal"

Finally I also tested to scan from the TS8053-s little display. It doesn't work.
Never mind, it works from the computer and I'm happy.

The sane and Xsane still doesn't find the scanner, but I shall tell them how/what I did.

The difference is you must change to "Application in Terminal"

...... what I suggested has worked for me several times!!

.... it won't because the good folks at SANE don't have access to the hardware; you do

but I shall tell them how/what I did.

they would be very grateful for your help; you have the hardware; they have the expertise; so do join the list and talk to them; they need you to test the latest version of sane .. on your TS .. they will send it to you .. and they will tweak it so it works for you ... and others using the TS .. so you can help the community ..
