Most Hp printers /scanners are supported in Linux /Mint Just make sure hplip is installed and it should be no problem installing the printer.
I like to use hplip-gui (Which you can install from synaptic) to do the actual install as it allows some feedback from most hp printers like ink levels, etc.

I am being told that the printer is showing as being installed, however when a print attempt
is made only BLANK sheets of paper are ejected from the printer. I know that "most" printers
are supported but I have scanned down thru the listing of supported printers on Linux printer.org
and unless I am missing it I do not see the deskjet 2050. Actually, if I am looking at the list correctly
it may be in the list at the bottom of printers which are NOT supported, am I misreading that ?
Thanks.

Re: HP Deskjet 2050 - all-in-one J510 series
so as HP make these printers; they have a webpage on hplip which is hp linux printing and there is a page saying what is compatible; and which version of hplip is needed
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... ices/index
from that; HP say the 2050 only needs 3.10 or greater; so that is a senior version of hplip; no plug-in is needed;
Mint 18 has 3.16.3 so that is fine; if one types in a terminal that will check all this is needed is available; if you get errors, you can post them back here;
if all is good, should register the device with lpadmin ......... the admin for linux printing on your computer ........ so it ......... should ........ all work if hp-setup is run ...........

Linux Printing is a great source of information on printing in linux; it is the place to look for open-source drivers; HP provide hplip that is their own version; just as Brother provide their own drivers etc
so Linux Printing would likely say to folks: use hplip .............

Well according to Hp site here https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag ... es#distros it should be support , though the hplip version listed for it is quite old. so you should be able to get it working.
try manually installing it by going to a web browser and type the following address in the address line: once cups comes up follow the prompts.
good luck.
