How To install Epson Scanner Drivers

Post by Cyberat »

2018-01-30

Greetings,

As of today, I have not found any drivers for Linux for my Epson Perfection V-370 brand new scanner (switched to Linux a month after purchase) on the website suggested or the official Epson Websites.
I have downloaded and successfully installed some generic all inclusive Epson drivers specifically targeted for Linux Mint, however neither Simple Scan, Image Scan or XSane detect my Epson Scanner.
I do have an old CanoScan Lide25 that is detected and installed, no problem, to my surprise. In Windows 7 the latest updates eliminated the twain functionality for it, exhausted all avenues but roll back some unknown update to make it work, as I thought it was broken, so I bought the Epson. But I would very much like to use the Epson scanner as it has other desirable features like film & negative holders, as well as a higher quality optical DPI resolution (not interpolated).
(Also, in the future I may build a new Windows PC and keep this laptop as a backup on the side.)

Thanks in Advance for any suggestions,
C.R.

Please note the following:

1. This has been posted in the Tutorial Section and should have been posted in Hardware Support or any other Support Section.
2. The URL for obtaining Linux drivers for Epson devices is http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/searc ... ch/?OSC=LX
3. The name of the Epson device has to be entered correctly. There is no entry for Epson Perfection V-370 but there is an entry for V370.

After you have typed V370 into the space asking for the Product Code, click on the magnifying lens and you will eventually get to the Linux Scanner Driver Download Page. Select "deb" and 32 or 64 bit as required. Extract and install instructions are provided.

Hi Peeps,

I found these Linux drivers for my Epson V500 Photo Scanner. They are the European Version of the V500 which is the 770. Maybe you can get them to work with your machine. Let me know.

FINALLY !!!! Solved.

Linux Mint 18.3.

Download this Folder: https://app.box.com/s/ffpoubqg8q8l4n46zwcparn3vdd8e97h this is from my box dot com folder.

Download Vuescan: https://www.hamrick.com/old-versions.html I am using the 64 bit version for Mint 18.3 (ubuntu 16.04)

Extract both files into folders.

With the Epson V500 Scanner drivers (iscan-gt-x770-bundle-1.0.0.x64.deb) or whichever file you are using... There are 4 files for different Versions of Linux.

follow these instructions:

Image Scan! for Linux
=====================

Copyright (C) 2015 SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION

For the impatient
-----------------

Change to the folder where you downloaded this scanner driver bundle,
extract it and install all components with

::

tar xaf iscan-gt-x770-bundle-1.0.0.x64.deb.tar.gz https://imgur.com/a/DKQ4S
cd iscan-gt-x770-bundle-1.0.0.x64.deb
./install.sh

in a terminal window.

You will be asked for your password to acquire the privileges needed
to install software on your system. This works the same way as with
your regular software installation procedure.

What is all this?
-----------------

This scanner driver bundle contains all components of Image Scan! for
Linux that are needed for the scanner you selected and a convenience
``install.sh`` script. The script can be used to install everything
with a single command.

If you are curious about what the script does, run it as follows

::

./install.sh --dry-run

That will display the command(s) it will run to install everything.
For a simple help message, try the ``--help`` option.

Non-free components
-------------------

The components in the ``plugins/`` folder are non-free, in the sense
that they do not give you all the freedoms normally associated with
`Free Software`_.

.. _Free Software: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software

With the exception of the "network" plugin (only included with the
generic iscan-bundle) these plugins are needed for the scanner you
selected. The "network" plugin, however, is optional. If you only
connect your scanner via USB (or SCSI) you do not need it. To tell
the ``install.sh`` script that you do not want it installed, use

::

./install.sh --without-network

The "network" plugin is installed by default because almost all recent
EPSON scanners and all-in-ones support access via a (wireless) network
connection.

To be completely honest, the GUI of Image Scan! for Linux contains a
non-free image processing module as well. It will not work without
this module.

Troubleshooting
---------------

While the ``install.sh`` script is expected to work as intended in the
vast majority of scenarios it might not work as intended for you. If
that is the case, please pay attention to the error messages in the
output that is produced. That should help you find a workaround by
yourself or in the list below.

No permission/privileges to install
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is likely to give messages that include phrases such as ``are you
root?``, ``Root privileges are required`` and ``you need to be root``
(possibly in your language). The ``install.sh`` script assumes that
you can use ``sudo`` to obtain ``root`` status. If
----------------------------------------------------------
Once you have installed the drivers.... then Extract the downloaded Vuescan Folder to your Home Folder or wherever you want it... and Make a shortcut on your desktop to activate the Vuescan. Make sure to install ALL THE SOFTWARE before you plug in your Epson V500 Scanner. IT Works for me. It's working on a Laptop and my main computer...
I am an absolute noob at Linux, and I am sure these instructions are maybe not perfect for an advanced user. but having never have used Linux at all.... some of my instructions may seem simple. I am struggling to learn...lol. Just wanted to share my problem solved.
Epson released all brand new Linux drivers for their printers and Scanners about March 25th give or take a day or so.
so, if you have had trouble before, and it still doesn't work like you want, go get the new printer drivers.
that new driver fixed my ET-2550 all in one printer/scanner/copier
all I did was download the new .deb file and the Archive Manager installed it...
then Add Printer saw it, and wham, thank you maam, it works...
this is the new name, and it listed a whole slew of printers and scanners, it must cover them all.
epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.6.19-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
Here is the list of the printers it covers.
Thank you for the heads up!
Meanwhile, I bought a cheap Samsung black and white laser printer, and I can print using Google Cloud Print.
I don't like to send all my documents across the Google Cloud for reasons, but darnit they sure do a terrific job at showing how to improve those painfully spartan 90s things you come across here and there on Linux. Emailing, printing, pdf-viewing, note-taking, etc.
Using the default Gnome viewer, some detailed designer PDFs literally scroll 0.5 frames per second on my high-end laptop. In Chrome, it scrolls fluently. Issues like this that haven't been fixed for 20 years. I could go on but I'm getting very off topic.
