Post by Saveris »

Hi,
there is MFC-7320 via USB

for lsusb comes:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 04f9:01eb Brother Industries, Ltd MFC-7320
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 258a:1001
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04f2:b1cc Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 138a:0007 Validity Sensors, Inc. VFS451 Fingerprint Reader
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

for scanimage -L comes:
device `brother3:bus1;dev1' is a Brother MFC-7320 USB scanner

but- if I try to scan, i have:
scanimage: open of device brother3:bus1;dev1 failed: Invalid argument

xsane gives me back message window "Filed to open device 'brother3:bus1;dev1': Invalid argument",
simple scan gives back: "Failed to scan. Unable to connect to scanner"
if I press scan button on MFC, message "connecting to pc" appears and nothing happens

but it works with VueScan!

Any ideas?

If you have USB 3 ports on your motherboard, you may have to so the following in BIOS:

set xHCI to disabled and EHCI hand-off to disabled.

I had the same problem you have with a usb connected MFC-7420 and doing the above allows the scanner to work. If I remember correctly, what is happing is that there is some kind of problem with how the USB 3 controller and OS handle the USB 2 connected printer/scanner. I do believe the above disables all USB 3 support so if that is important this solution will not work.

You can give the above a try and see if it works.
