Hp printers have the best support for linux. Why? I had some problems after going to 18.3, but waited for hp to update their drivers and they did. Their new driver hplip 3.18.3 will probably fix any problems you may have with with18.3.
The problem I had was getting xsane to work with the old hplip. Tried reinstalling. Didn't solve the problem. I was going to do a new reinstall, but hp came through with a new driver. I installed following the directions from Hp and everything again perfect

A lot of Linux users use HP printers. They have Linux drivers for just about every printer they ever made. HP is all I ever buy anymore.
