I was looking at the Epson Perfection V600. I was just checking out their Digital ICE technology.
I went to sane backends and it says it is not supported, but had a comment "supported by the umax backend rebadged UMAX Astra 1200S". I went to the Epson web site and it said, "Epson does not provide support for Linux drivers." I know vuescan appears in this forum, so I checked it out and it says it is supported. Is vuescan the route to go? It's difficult to tell, how much of the features are built-in the scanner, and how much is in the driver and other software. I wouldn't want to lose the Digital ICE feature if I go this route.

Epson make a driver for the Epson Perfection V600
so to hardware manufacturers, "support" seems to mean; being willing to spend hours on the telephone to someone; Epson do make a driver for your V600
if you go here http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/du/02 ... ae38ffc60f and ACCEPT you can download the appropriate version; I assume you are using MInt and if you click whatever version you are using; and if it is 32bit or 64bit, and if you SAVE the download, you should end up with a tar.gz package;
If you happy to use a terminal the commands would be
and that should install the package

I didn't quite understand the link on the original v600 info page... no driver, but go to this link. Then I still don't know if a user will get all the functions of the scanner, or just a bare minimum, so does it pay to get that particular scanner if running LM. It seems you have to buy it to find out what works and doesn't
How do we get manufacturers to make drivers for their hardware? I keep watching System76, hoping as they start doing more in-house, that maybe something will change, maybe in combination with Dell.
Re: Epson Perfection V600
You need to click the ACCEPT button; then you get to see the options; you see Package Download Page; again, click on that; and from there you select which version of Mint you are using: I am guessing it is 64bit mintI didn't quite understand the link on the original v600 info page.
(If I had clicked the ACCEPT button; and quoted that link; you would most likely NOT have been able to see it; as it somehow links only to my computer; it seems: .... so you need to press the ACCEPT button for yourself!
You say
......... I can't understand this; Epson provide a driver for the V600 .........How do we get manufacturers to make drivers for their hardware?
I had never heard of Digital ICE before: https://www.epson.eu/en/viewcon/corpora ... s/index/37 I have just used scanning for much simpler purposes;
https://files.support.epson.com/htmldoc ... eatr_3.htm I see they say it is hardware-based; but from this post https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1706667 7yrs ago, it seems only VueScan will work; it is a very well regarded programme; with excellent support; for a very good scanner; being used for high-end use; surely worth supporting with VueScan; you can constantly contact them for support
