Canon supply scanner driver for Pixma E481

Post by pdc_2 »

so Simple Scan; and Xsane; are front-ends for SANE; the open-source package that can talk to scanners;

if you go to their website, and look up Canon; the SANE folks know about the Canon E480 series devices; but they can't support the E480 series: they need testers urgently .. but more of that later;

__________
Instead, Canon supply a scanner driver so go here http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/cont ... 67202.html and click to download and SAVE what will be scangearmp2-3.10-1-deb.tar.gz and it should end up in your Downloads folder;

so the plan will be to copy the commands listed below; line by line; and paste each line into the terminal; and hit the ENTER key after each paste; then move on to the next command;

to open a terminal; click on the black TV on the bottom tool bar; to PASTE into the terminal; right-click at the text prompt in the terminal; the flashing right; look for PASTE in the menu that appears ......

Code: Select all

cd Downloads

Code: Select all

tar -zxvf scangearmp2-3.10-1-deb.tar.gz

Code: Select all

cd scangearmp2-3.10-1-deb

Code: Select all

sudo ./install.sh
and that last is the install script; watch the terminal as it may ask you questions;
_____
KEY THING NOW is to get ScanGearMP2 to run, is to paste this command into a terminal;

Code: Select all

scangearmp2
; if it all works, tell us and you can add a launcher; .. to launch ScanGearMP2 ...

_________
SANE would greatly appreciate your help: if you join their mailing list from here https://alioth-lists.debian.net/cgi-bin ... sane-devel they are friendly and helpful; you have the hardware; you can help them; please let us know how it goes
