Canon MP560

Post by michael f-w »

I am new to Linux Mint after windows 10 up date consigned this laptop to the computer scrap heap. I used you-tube for help to install mint, and to load open office as this is my program of choose on my main computer. I tried and failed to get my Canon MP560 to load. I tried to install by USB, it saw it and loaded the soft wear, but the print test page was blanked off, and it would not print. Do you have any ideas?. Thank you.

how old is that printer? some older printers should 'just install' from the Add-Printer dialogue in LinuxMint.

also try out this Guide:
http://www.ubuntubuzz.com/2011/06/downl ... river.html
and see if that helps.

so Michael: what Pierre meant was go to MENU at bottom left; go to ADMINISTRATION and then to PRINTERS folder

click the ADD button top-left; wait while it looks around; it should identify your printer; and configure it;

if it does; right-click on the icon that should appear in that PRINTERS folder; look in PROPERTIES and look at the line that says MAKE & MODEL: it should say MP560 .. if it does not, look for the CHANGE button to the right of that. select CANON from the list that appears; then scroll down to MP560 and select it; if Mint didn't get it right first time

Dependency is not satisfiable! Libiff4 "
you need libtiff4 so go here to the Debian repositories https://packages.debian.org/wheezy/libtiff4

SCROLL DOWN THE PAGE ....... if you have 64bit Mint, select the amd package and click to download and install; then try the debian package again; alternative is:

Canon do supply a driver from here http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/cont ... 36502.html so you can click to download the full package which is cnijfilter-mp560series-3.20-1-i386-deb.tar.gz

you can open a terminal; copy the commands below; paste into the terminal and hit the ENTER key for each command;

Code: Select all

cd Downloads

Code: Select all

tar -zxvf cnijfilter-mp560series-3.20-1-i386-deb.tar.gz

Code: Select all

cd cnijfilter-mp560series-3.20-1-i386-deb

Code: Select all

sudo ./install.sh
As you can see, it is a 32bit package; so if it doesn't go well, do 2 symbolic links

Code: Select all

sudo ln -s /usr/lib /usr/lib64

Code: Select all

sudo ln -s /usr/local/lib /usr/local/lib64
........ best to do a reboot if you need those; then try again!
