[Solved]Samsung M288x Scanner and Mint 19 Cinnamon
Just getting a new install of Mint 19 and my Samsung M2885FW MFP setup and running into issues with having the scanner recognized.
the first thing done (after apt update / upgrade) is to download the current driver package from HP (yeah, samsung sold printer biz to HP) and run the install scripts. Printer is added and prints just fine. Installed xsane and when started, no scanners found. Removed and reinstalled scanner driver and get the following:
---------------------------------------------------------
**** Do you agree ? [y/n] : y
**** Registering SANE backend ...
**** Restarting udev ...
**** Scan driver has been installed successfully.
**** Install finished.
steven@BT1:~/Apps/SamsungPrinter$
------------------------------------------------------------
So all looks good, only still no scanners found with either xsane or simple scan. Reboot into the Mint 18.3 system installed on my box and scanner is picked up and scans fine with xsane. To me the issue looks to be Mint 19 related since thats the only change.
Anyone else having similar issue in Mint 19?

Samsung M288x and Mint 19 (beta?)
Mint 19 is still in beta development, is that right?
Re: Samsung M288x Scanner and Mint 19 Cinnamon
Same here, Samsung scx-3405f, both scanner/printer works on mint 18.3. Printer works on 19, not scanner. Tried install/uninstall to no vail...Anyone?
Re: Samsung M288x Scanner and Mint 19 Cinnamon
Installed ULD from hp/samsung site, software is installed, but in the simple scan-menu the scanner does not show up in settings.
Re: Samsung M288x Scanner and Mint 19 Cinnamon
well, sometimes it shows up in scanner-setting, but it will not scan.

# sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
# result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
# scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.
# No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

"scanimage -L" kind of works, since it wakes up the scanner, but it dosnt scan anything.

Re: Samsung M288x Scanner and Mint 19 Cinnamon
I was having the same trouble with my Samsung SCX-3405FW.
I found some instructions here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/969238/ ... g-in-17-10
Specifically, the part saying this:
That fixed the problem for me in Linux Mint 19.

Re: [Solved]Samsung M288x Scanner and Mint 19 Cinnamon
HP explicitly states that its drivers do NOT support Mint 19. In some cases the drivers for 18.3 will still work. In other cases the won't. We need to wait for either HP or the Mint developers to resolve the problem introduced in Mint 19.
