Canon MAXIFY MB5420: I recommend the Canon drivers
so should I assume/guess that you have installed Mint 19?
I ask because with Mint 19 came airprint-support; and your very fine MB is airprint-compatible; so one would have thought Mint would have spotted it and auto-configured it;
I assume it is recognised by the router, if it is wireless? Can you perhaps tell us?
you can check all is good with recognition by typing and hit the ENTER key: do you see the Canon listed there?
I would suggest installing the drivers that Canon supply;
that will mean copying each line of command below, 1 by 1; pasting each line into a terminal; and hitting the ENTER key; (then move to the next line ..)
how to open a terminal? It is the black TV on the bottom toolbar; or hold down the control and alt and t keys all at once: sort of like a piano chord ..
to paste into the terminal, if you right-click at the text prompt ......... the flashing light .. and look for PASTE in the menu that appears
OK: so go here http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/cont ... 39901.html
and click to download and SAVE what will be cnijfilter2-5.40-1-deb.tar.gz ....( it should end up in your Downloads folder)
now do the copy and paste stuff ..
that last command runs an install script; to do things for you; watch as it runs; as it will ask you questions;

Re: Canon MAXIFY MB5420 need drivers & software
Thanks for the info!
Sorry I did not give you enough info but I'm still on v18.3 both 32bit and 64bit. Does that make a difference on the above instructions?
Yes using a wifi connection too

Re: Canon MAXIFY MB5420 need drivers & software
thanks; those instructions are all good for Mint 18
according to SANE, http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-CANON the scanner should work fine with simple scan or xsane
(as long as the MB is already talking to your router ..)
