Canon MG4250 printing doesn't fit page

Post by electric-wildflower » Fri Aug 03, 2018 5:49 pm

Hello everyone i need some support on my printer if anyone can help.

So i get a new (used printer) Canon MG 4250 and it was a bit of a struggle to get Linux to see it wirelessly till i worked out installing it via cable first then doing the Wifi route solved the problem. Anyway now i have a rather annoying problem and not sure how to solve it.

So i am using A4 plain paper for the job of printing but no matter what i print out it can be a photo, text document or anything it will not print anything using the whole paper. Everything that comes out i am produced with a small picture up in the left hand corner of the paper the same with text like the photo attached. Do i have a setting wrong or something because nothing will come out properly??

Thanks in advanced for the help :)

Canon MG4250 : try the Canon drivers

Post by pdc_2 » Fri Aug 03, 2018 8:08 pm

can I suggest you try installing the drivers that Canon supply?

If you go here https://www.canon-europe.com/support/co ... anguage=EN which is Canon Europe

and click to download and SAVE what will be cnijfilter-mg4200series-3.80-1-deb.tar.gz and it should end up in your Downloads folder

you need to paste the commands below into the a terminal .. to paste, right-click at the text prompt: (the flashing light); look for PASTE in the menu that appears ..

the terminal is the black TV on the bottom line ......

Code: Select all

cd Downloads

Code: Select all

tar -zxvf cnijfilter-mg4200series-3.80-1-deb.tar.gz

Code: Select all

cd cnijfilter-mg4200series-3.80-1-deb

Code: Select all

sudo ./install.sh
that last will run the install script; watch as it runs; it will ask you questions; it should set up the MG as wireless if already connected to the router;

This will create a second icon; so try deleting the one that doesn't work; before you do the above

It all went well downloading and cd into directory etc but when trying to install i get this problem

Code: Select all

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of cnijfilter-mg4200series:
 cnijfilter-mg4200series depends on libpng12-0 (>= 1.2.8rel); however:
  Package libpng12-0 is not installed.
 cnijfilter-mg4200series depends on libtiff4; however:
  Package libtiff4 is not installed.
I searched package manager for the said files and can't find them, i also tried using terminal to install and both throw up the following.

Code: Select all

Package libpng12-0 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

Code: Select all

E: Unable to locate package libtiff4
I'm now stuck lol

I fixed it, i search the ubuntu repos in chromium and downloaded the packages manually to install not the best way to do it but it worked, it installed fine and two test prints of text and a photo they came out correct.

Thanks for the help :)
