Carriage Mechanically Stuck

Post by borgward »

The carriage on HP 6500 Wireless is mechanically stuck in it's parking area on the right. Can only physically more it to the left a little bit. I discovered that something below is stuck to it. What is below it? That thing travels with the carriage when I move it until it hits another part, preventing the carriage traveling to the left any further. I recently replaced all the ink cartridges with new from HP, so I am loath to just throw the printer away.

I cut the plastic housing away from the housing over the carriage parking area for access allowing me to remove the cartridges and printer head. I replace those parts within 2 minutes to prevent them from drying up.

Wondering how to get the carriage unstuck. I just bought another 6500 for $9. Low on ink but in working order. I wonder what caused the carriage to get stuck to that piece under it so I can prevent that happening on the one I just purchased. Leaking ink cartridge? I still want to fix the original one. HP forum, Tom's Hardware - no help. Any other forums?
