Wireless HP4500 printer/scanner sleep mode fix.

Post by JLC17 »

I have one of these, and am happy with it - when it works. However, because I rarely use it, more often than not, when I do go to use it, it's put itself into sleep mode.

In the absence any response from HP, this is a bug of some description.

Rather than waste my time with HP, I wondered if anyone had any ideas about ways to prevent this from a Linux Machine. The printer is networked, and on the same network are 3 machines - including this one running Mint 19.

Would a simple "cron ping <printer>" every hour for a minute work ?

Has anyone fixed a similar issue ?

Thanks in advance.

Best fix is to get one of these segment timer switches, set it to be on 23 hours 45 minutes (just nip one segment for around 3am) and plug the printer into that.
